Radiofrequency Micro-Bipolar Tonsillectomy

چکیده

The combination of the microsurgical method using a microscope together with bipolar coagulation for tonsillectomy was fi rst described by Andrea [1]. A signifi cant reduction in postoperative morbidity was reported. A modifi ed technique with similar success in more than 1.000 tonsillectomies uses a new instrument which incorporates not only precise bipolar coagulation, but also suction and excellent dissection capabilities. The use of a magnifi cation device, such as loup lenses or a microscope further enhances control during the intervention. Tonsillectomies can be performed very quickly with little, but precise and effective bipolar coagulation while most of the dissection is “cold” or “blunt”. The glossopharyngeal nerve can be identifi ed and spared.

Six years of evidence-based adult dissection tonsillectomy with ultrasonic scalpel, bipolar electrocautery, bipolar radiofrequency or 'cold steel' dissection.

OBJECTIVE To conduct an adequately powered, prospective, randomised, controlled trial comparing adult dissection tonsillectomy using either ultrasonic scalpel, bipolar electrocautery, bipolar radiofrequency or 'cold steel' dissection. METHODS Three hundred patients were randomised into four tonsillectomy technique groups. The operative time, intra-operative bleeding, post-operative pain, tons...

Influence of Radiofrequency Surgery on Architecture of the Palatine Tonsils

Radiofrequency surgery is a widely used modern technique for submucosal volume reduction of the tonsils. So far there is very limited information on morphologic changes in the human tonsils after radiofrequency surgery. We performed histopathological study of tonsillectomy specimens after previous bipolar radiofrequency induced thermotherapy (RFITT). A total of 83 patients underwent bipolar RFI...

Comparing Traditional Cold Knife Tonsillectomy with a New Technique Plasma Knife Tonsillectomy

Although the experiences of ear nose throat physicians in tonsil surgery is considerable, there is no consensus about optimal surgical procedure. There are various surgical procedures; cold knife tonsillectomy, monopolar and bipolar electrocautery excision, cryosurgery, diathermy, bipolar scissors tonsillectomy, KTP-532 laser, ultrasonic excision and the newest procedures of radiofrequency tons...
